The Ultimate Fighting Championship’s upcoming event in Manila has been cancelled, following the withdrawal of BJ Penn.

On Thursday the promotion announced that UFC FN 97 will not take place on October 15th as scheduled, since Penn cannot fight Ricardo Lamas due to a rib injury.

The aforementioned announcement also stated:

“Athletes scheduled to compete on the Oct. 15 card will be rebooked at upcoming UFC events in the near future. Each athlete set to compete on Oct. 15 will also receive compensation due to the card being rescheduled. With its 2016 calendar finalized, UFC officials will discuss future dates for the event.”

Penn hasn’t fought now since 2014 when he was stopped by Frankie Edgar.
