UFC Hall of Famer Don Frye is reporting that he’s begun the recovery process, after a series of health issues prompted doctors to medically induce a coma.

The 51 year-old, retired fighter, was hospitalized due to pain in his back. On a recent edition of “The MMA Hour”, however, Frye reported that doctors discovered that a rod, which had been inserted during a previous surgery for his back, had broken. According to Frye, an infection had also set in, and then a brain hemorrhage forced doctors to induce a coma.

“The Predator” relayed in the interview (quote via MMA Fighting.com):

“I went in there for my back. I broke the rod in my back, and then I had some kind of hemorrhage in my brain. And then they put me in a medically induced coma for a while, and then I had pneumonia, and something else I can’t remember.”

“I’ve been awake for ten days,” Frye said. “Before that, I was out for two months so I don’t know what’s going on. It’s like a whole new world for me. It was terrible.”

The legendary fighter and MMA pioneer proceed to add, “I’ll get back on track. I’m Don Frye.”
