UFC Live on Versus: Kongo, Lauzon, Oliveira and Lentz Collect Bonus Awards
By FCF Staff
Anyone who witnessed Cheick Kongo’s stunning come from behind knockout of Pat Barry at last night’s UFC Live on Versus event in Pittsburgh, should not be surprised to learn that the French heavyweight has been awarded an extra $50,000 for his efforts.
Kongo earned the “Knock Out of the Night” award with a crushing uppercut that instantly KO’d Barry, after being battered with a series of punches from his opponent just moments earlier.
Joe Lauzon took home “Submission of the Night” and $50,000 extra dollars for his first round, tap-out of Curtis Warburton. After sending Warburton to the canvas with a pounding right-left combo, Lauzon quickly followed up with a highlight reel, fighting ending kimura.
“Fight of the Night” honors went to Charles Oliveira and Nik Lentz, who engaged in a spirited, back-and-forth bout until Oliveira submitted his opponent with a second round, rear-naked-choke.
The entertaining bout wasn’t without controversy, however, as Oliveira caught the grounded Lentz with an illegal knee just moments before the fight ending submission. The Pennsylvania commission announced afterwards that they would be reviewing the result.
