UFC on FOX 13: Junior dos Santos Still Believes More Fights With Cain Velasquez Are Ahead
By FCF Staff
Although Junior dos Santos has been defeated by UFC heavyweight champ Cain Velasquez twice, the former champion still believes the two will fight again, perhaps for even a fifth time.
Dos Santos will square off with fellow contender Stipe Miocic today at UFC on FOX 13, and if not for his previous losses to Velasquez, another title shot could be on the line. Dos Santos was stopped by Velasquez last October, and has yet to fight again, after incurring a hand injury earlier this year.
Well, while speaking to UFC.com recently about tonight’s fight, JDS relayed the following about Velasquez and the chances they’ll fight again.
“I said it before our last fight and I’ll say it again – I believe Cain and I will fight each other many times throughout our careers,” dos Santos said. “I believed all the way to the end of that fight that I could get the W. In the last round I had him in a guillotine that could have changed everything, but Cain reacted very well and was able to effectively defend against it. It could have just as easily gone the other way – that’s the beauty of this sport.”
Dos Santos stopped Velasquez in their first meeting back in 2011, but was decisioned by the champ in their second meeting in 2012.
Miocic, meanwhile, has won three straights fights and is currently ranked #4 in the UFC’s heavyweight division. Dos Santos is currently positioned at #2.
UFC on FOX 13 will be hosted by the U.S. Airways Center in Phoenix, Arizona.
