Lyoto Machida may be coming off consecutive stoppage defeats to Luke Rockhold and Yoel Romero, but the 37 year-old legend hasn’t abandoned his hope of securing another UFC title.

The former light-heavyweight champ is expected to face fellow legend, Dan Henderson, at UFC on FOX 19 on April 16th. Recently Machida spoke to the Brazilian outlet Sportv, and he reportedly relayed the following (quote via Bloody Elbow.com):

“I believe I’m in the mix. The numbers never lie. I have great wins. I’m in the mix for a title shot very soon. I think the sport has evolved a lot and I have been evolving, too, despite my losses. You have to see that as a part of your evolution so you can improve. There’s always room for improvement. You have to reinvent yourself.”

Prior to his aforementioned losses to Romero and Rockhold, Machida took out CB Dollaway in December, 2014. “The Dragon” challenged now former champ Chris Weidman earlier this year and lost via unanimous decision.
