In advance of their fight this Saturday, Michelle Waterson has labelled Paige VanZant as “green”, and “12 Gauge” doesn’t disagree.

The strawweights will square off in the headliner of UFC on FOX 22, which will take place in Sacramento, California. The fighters appeared on the latest “UFC Tonight”, and when Waterson was asked about her “green” comment, the 30 year-old stated (quote via FOX Sports press release):

“I’m not talking smack. I’m just speaking the truth. She said it herself after she fought Rose. She said she’s still learning.”

When the 22 year-old VanZant was asked to respond to Waterson’s claim, the Team Alpha Male fighter said:

“Yeah, I feel like everyone knows that. I am. But I’ve been able to beat opponents my first day in the gym who have already been belt holders. I’m breaking records. There’s something special that Sage Northcutt and I have, we’re evolving with the sport because we’re so young.”

VanZant (7-2) is coming off a KO win over Bec Rawlings in August. Waterson (13-4), meanwhile, hasn’t fought since July, 2015, when she submitted Angela Magana.
