Since Chris Weidman has lost three straight fights, some observers have argued that the former middleweight champ’s best years are behind him. But, the “All-American” fighter says his performance in the gym and sparring, is evidence as to why that’s not the case.

Weidman will take on Kelvin Gastelum today in the headliner of UFC on FOX 25. Heading into the fight, Weidman has dropped consecutive bouts to Luke Rockhold, Yoel Romero and Gegard Mousasi. Recently the New York fighter had this to say about the argument he’s on the downward slope (quote via UFC.com):

“I think I was winning all those fights, then things happened, but I don’t let it beat me mentally. I don’t let the critics that look at my record and say I’m on the downswing change my mind set. I feel like I’m getting better and better. If I was a guy who was in the training room and the guys I was beating in the practice room started beating me and I felt I was declining, I would be a little negative about everything that’s gone on. But that’s not the case. I’m still on the path of separating myself from other people and I still feel like I’m in the prime of my career, so I can’t let an event, a fight, dictate my potential.”

UFC on FOX 25 will take place in Long Island, New York.
