Although Josh Emmett recorded a brutal, first round knockout win over Ricardo Lamas at UFC on FOX 26, he’s open to granting the featherweight veteran a rematch.

Lamas was originally scheduled to fight Jose Aldo at the Winnipeg event, but when Frankie Edgar was sidelined with a facial injury, Aldo was tapped to fight the champ Max Holloway at UFC 218. Emmett agreed to face Lamas on short notice at the December 16th card, and took the perennial contender out with a vicious, left hook in round one.

After the pivotal win, Emmett was asked if he’d be willing to fight Lamas again, if that request came (quote via MMA Junkie):

“Of course,” said Emmett, who came in 2.5 pounds over for the co-headliner. “He did this for me. He didn’t have to take this fight. He is one of the best guys in the world. He could have sat back and waited for the winner of (Frankie) Edgar (vs. Max) Holloway fight and then get a title shot, or fight (Brian) Ortega, and the winner of that get a title fight. I’m truly grateful for him accepting the fight, as well as with me missing the weight.”

With the victory on Saturday, the 32 year-old Emmett moved his overall record to 13-1.
