UFC on FS1 1: Thiago Alves Injured, Mike Pyle Fighting Matt Brown
By FCF Staff
Thiago Alves will not fight Matt Brown at the first UFC on FOX Sports 1 card on August 17th, as the promotion has announced that Alves has been injured, and that Mike Pyle will be his replacement. No details regarding Alves’ injury were included in the announcement.
Pyle (25-8-1) is coming off a split decision win over Rick Story at UFC 160 in May to extend his winning streak to 4. The only men to defeat the 37 year-old vet in his last ten bouts are top contenders Rory MacDonald and Jake Ellenberger.
Brown (17-11) will head into UFC on FS1 1 armed with a five fight win streak that includes wins over Chris Cope, Luis Ramos, Stephen Thompson, Mike Swick and Jordan Mein.
The August 17th card will be hosted by Boston’s TD Garden Arena and will feature “Shogun” Rua taking on Chael Sonnen in the main event. Other main card bouts include Alistair Overeem vs. Travis Browne and Yuri Alcantara vs. Urijah Faber.
