UFC Responds to Report Promotion is Withholding Anderson Silva’s Pay

Anderson Silva

By FCF Staff

Recently a report surfaced in Brazil claiming that the Ultimate Fighting Championship is withholding Anderson Silva’s pa for UFC 183, and the promotion has responded to the claim.

Silva allegedly tested positive for steroids leading up to his January 31st bout with Nick Diaz, and the fighter is expected to appear in front of the Nevada Commission on February 17th. Silva denies taking PEDs.

A report from Veja stated that the UFC is withholding the $800,000 Silva was paid for the bout, as well as approximately $5,200,000 in pay-per-view dividends. According to a follow up report from MMA Junkie.com, the UFC released the following statement:

“The financial reports made by Veja.com are not true.”

The aforementioned report points out that the UFC cannot withhold fighter pay that has been disclosed to the athletic commissions, and that PPV dividends are not based on a fighter’s athletic performance.

Silva worked his way to a unanimous decision win over Diaz at UFC 183.
