UFC Says Jose Aldo-Conor McGregor Still on, Chad Mendes Waiting in The Wings
By FCF Staff
For now, the highly anticipated bout between Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor is still a go.
Recently it was reported that Aldo has suffered a rib injury while training, and that as a result, his July 11th bout with Conor McGregor was in jeopardy.
Late on Wednesday, however, the UFC announced that Aldo’s rib is not broken as originally feared. Further, the announcement says that the featherweight champ has “expressed that he has every intention of facing Conor McGregor at UFC 189.”
The statement says that Aldo has a bruised rib and an injury to his cartilage. Although the championship fight is still on, Chad Mendes has been notified that if Aldo cannot compete, he will face McGregor for an interim title at UFC 189.
UFC 189 will be hosted by the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
