Coming off of a stunning “Knockout of the Night” victory over Marcus Brimage at his UFC debut, breakout star Conor McGregor has voiced his desire to fill in for the injured Joe Proctor and fight Al Iaquinta at UFC 159 in April.

This would leave only 21 days in between matches.

McGregor (13-2) clamored for the position via Twitter while attempting to rally fans in support,

“April 27th New Jersey!!! 155lbs versus a TUF finalist!!! WHO WANTS TO SEE IT?” Mcgregor tweeted.

His would be opponent, Iaquinta (5-2-1), has not fought since getting submitted by Michael Chisea at The Ultimate Fighter 15 finale. An injured knee has kept him out of the cage until now.

This match, should it ever happen, would take place at the lightweight division, an immediate jump from his featherweight fight last Saturday. A threat at either weight, the 24 year old Irishman held the Cage Warriors Fighting Championship title in both divisions.

UFC 159 will be held at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Iaquinta is scheduled to fight on the preliminary card, with the main event featuring Jon Jones attempting to defend his light heavyweight title against Chael Sonnen.
