UFC’s Dan Hardy Talks Comeback: “I’ve Spoken to a Few Doctors and It’s Looking Positive”

It looks like the UFC could have one of Britain’s top fighters available for fights in 2015, as Dan Hardy says he’s hopeful he’ll be medically cleared to fight in the coming months.

The veteran fighter hasn’t fought now since September, 2012, when he worked his way to a unanimous decision win over Amir Sadollah. Not long after, Hardy was diagnosed with the heart condition Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, and the fighter was informed he must undergo a surgical procedure before he could be cleared to fight again. Hardy decided against having surgery.

In a recent interview with Sweden’s MMA NYTT, the 32 year-old fighter was asked about his future in fighting, and here is some of what Hardy had to say:

“I’m looking at getting cleared at the beginning of next year. I’ve spoken to a few doctors and it’s looking positive. I don’t see a reason why I wouldn’t get cleared to fight. So now really it’s just about getting back into a training camp. Getting back into the groove of preparing for a fight. I’ve been training every day, I’m still very active and I’ve changed a few things about my training. I’m a little lighter now. I’m a bit quicker…One thing that’s frustrating about this job is I don’t feel like I’ve shown my best in the UFC yet. So I would like two or three more fights just to kind of get that out of the way so I can focus on being a commentator.”

During the interview, Hardy (25-10) also relayed that he’s considering dropping down from welterweight to fight at 155 pounds. He also expressed his interest in fighting Diego Sanchez, who he argues has “discarded logic and intelligence and he’s gone with hard-headedness and blocking punches with his face.”

Prior to fighting Sadollah, Hardy KO’d Dunae Ludwig in May, 2012, which ended “The Outlaw’s” four fight losing skid.

After joining the UFC in 2008, Hardy went on to record four straight victories and challenged now former champ Georges St-Pierre in 2010. The latter won the bout via unanimous decision.
