Wanderlei Silva Handed Three Year, Retroactive Suspension by Nevada Commission

Wanderlei Silva

By FCF Staff

After a prolonged legal battle with the Nevada State Athletic Commission, Wanderlei Silva has been handed a three year suspension, for evading a drug test back in 2014.

Initially, the NSAC suspended Silva for life, but the fighter’s camp appealed the ruling and a court overturned the decision. According to multiple reports, the 39 year-old has ultimately received a three year suspension for the infraction, which is retroactive to May, 2014. So, the former PRIDE champ could apply for a license to compete in May, 2017.

The news comes not long after Silva publicly apologized and retracted claims he made that the UFC had fixed fights. The promotion reportedly released the Brazilian star from his contract.

Silva hasn’t fought since 2013 when he KO’d Brian Stann.
