Wanderlei Silva’s Interested in Facing Fedor Emelianenko, But Not Next

Wanderlei Silva

By FCF Staff

There’s been a lot of talk lately about whether a Fedor Emelianenko – Wanderlei Silva might happen, and while the latter’s definitely interested, he doesn’t want that fight next.

Silva recently had his lifetime suspension from the Nevada Commission reduced to three years, and the legendary fighter is eligible to return to action next spring. Although, Silva could decide to fight abroad, even though he remains suspended in Nevada. Emelianenko, meanhile, launched his comeback this past December while fighting for Rizin FF.

While it remains to be seen where Silva will end up fighting, the Brazilian star recently told Combate that he’s been in talks with Rizin, and that Bellator is also a possibility. Silva also said this about facing Fedor (quote via MMA Fighting.com):

“There’s a possibility of fighting Fedor, who is an opponent I would really like to fight. I’m not just talking, but can’t be the first one, right? Now that I haven’t fought in two years, I can’t get him right away. I need to do some fights first, get my rhythm back, and when the promotion thinks it’s time and I feel I’m in a good rhythm, I would really want to test myself against him, for sure. I’ve fought the best in the world but him. I would really like to test myself against him. I don’t have anything against Fedor, but I would like to test myself and see how it goes.”

Emelianenko is expected to fight for Rizin again, after he stopped Jaideep Singh in his comeback bout on New Year’s Eve.
