Jim kept saying we needed a "big wrastler" to counter the Gracie's dominance. Jim saw quickly that the Gracie's jiujitsu was nearly impossible for strikers to counter. I went after Dan not only because he was a beast but also because his experience was remarkable; he had literally fought/wrestled all over the world. He was always a gentleman too, except in the Octagon.And the mustache and old school trunks made him look like an old time bare-knuckle boxer, Jim Brown not only gave Dan his nickname it was also at his urging that I brought Dan into the UFC.
