Junior dos Santos may have been able to defend more of Cain Velasquez’s takedowns last night, and stunned him on a couple of occasions, but once again he was overwhelmed by the heavyweight champion.

Velasquez kept dos Santos off balance throughout much of the fight by turning to both his impressive wrestling and striking games, and in round three, appeared to be on the verge of stopping “Cigano.”

After the memorable bout, UFC President Dana White relayed to FOX Sports 2 that he thinks the fight should have been stopped earlier than it ultimately was.

“I think we’ve learned that Junior Dos Santos has the most unbelievable chin and heart I’ve ever seen,” White noted about the bout, which saw Velasquez finish dos Santos in round five. “I think that fight should have been stopped in the third round. I believe the two best heavyweights in the world are Cain and Junior.”

Velasquez has dominated dos Santos now in back-to-back bouts, after being knocked out by the former champ in their first meeting at UFC on FOX 1. As a result, the P4P contender doesn’t foresee a fourth fight happening any time soon.

“I think it’ll be done for a while,” said Velasquez. “Maybe five years down the line, we’ll fight again, but not right now.”

UFC 166 was hosted by Houston’s Toyota Center and also saw Daniel Cormier defeat Roy Nelson by unanimous decision in the co-main-event.
