Wilcox Outscores Ribeiro for UD Win

By FCF Staff
Justin Wilcox worked his way to a unanimous decision win over Vitor Ribeiro at last night’s Strikeforce Challengers card in Jackson, Mississippi, handing the renowned jiu-jitsu competitor his third loss in a row. Utilizing his wrestling skills, Wilcox kept Ribeiro on his feet, and outscored the BJJ black belt with strikes to earn the decision win. (Pictured Wilcox hitting Ribeiro)
“We came out wanting to exploit his stand up.  At AKA, we’ve got the best stand up,” Wilcox was quoted saying.
Marius Zaromskis’s bout with Waachim Spirit Wolf had hardly even begun, when Spirit Wolf was poked in the eye accidently by the Dream welterweight champ, as he charged in with a flying knee. After taking several minutes to try to recover, Spirit Wolf eventually informed the ringside physician that he could not see out of his left eye and the bout was disappointingly declared a no contest.
“In the case of an accidental foul, the referee has the discretion to give the fighter up to five minutes regardless of what kind of foul occurs,” said Cory Schafer, Strikeforce Rules Director and ISKA President.  “If the foul occurs in the first or second round of a three round fight and the fighter can’t continue as a result of the accidental foul, the bout is declared a no contest.”
Former collegiate linebacker, Ovince St. Preux added another important win to his growing resume, as he was awarded the split decision victory over veteran Antwain Britt. Early on, it appeared as St. Preux would score the first round stoppage, as he dropped Britt with a hard kick to the body and punished him with punches from above. Britt survived the onslaught, and although he performed much better in the second and third round by utilizing his wrestling, St. Preux did enough to earn the win.
