MMA World Series of Fighting held its first press conference this afternoon in Las Vegas, Nevada, to officially kick off the new promotion’s operations. As expected, the organization’s president Ray Sefo announced that the first World Series of Fighting event will take place November 3rd at the Planet Hollywood Casino, and that the card will be broadcast live on the NBC Sports Network.
The upstart promotion’s CEO Sig Rogich was also in attendance, as were signed fighters Miguel Torres, Gregor Gracie and Josh Burkman.
Sefo announced several bouts for the promotion’s upcoming debut, including Gerald Harris vs. Burkman, “JZ” Cavalcante vs. John Gunderson, Gracie vs. Tyson Steele and Ronys Torres vs. Brian Cobb.
Miguel Torres is expected to fight on the card, as is Bobby Lashley, who Sefo announced the WSOF has signed. The promotion has also inked James McSweeney and Rolles Gracie to deals.
Sefo also announced that the promotion still intends to roll out a tournament format at some juncture, as was originally announced when news of the organization first broke.
WSOF bouts will be held in a ten sided decagon.
Sefo also relayed that the WSOF will look to do eight to ten shows per year for the time being, and that it’s current agreement with NBC is for one year. For now, the WSOF will continue to hold events in Las Vegas, but Sefo did acknowledge that expanding globally is one of the promotion’s goals.
The noted kickboxer and trainer stressed continually throughout the press conference that the promotion’s emphasis will be treating fighters fairly and putting together bouts that entertains fans.
