WSOF 10: Nick LoBosco Plans to Prove “I’m the Next Best Thing” Versus Lance Palmer

Nick LoBosco may not be a familiar name with casual, or even some die hard MMA fans just yet, but the undefeated lightweight is looking to change all that at World Series of Fighting 10. Following LoBosco’s first round, knockout win over Fabio Mello in October, he’s been booked him to fight the man who challenged for the WSOF featherweight title in December, Lance Palmer. In other words, a win over the Team Alpha Male fighter would be a big, eye catching addition to LoBosco’s 7-0 record.

“I’m moving up. Every time I fight I want someone better,” LoBosco was quoted saying in a press release from the promotion. “This is a chance to prove that I’m the next big thing. I believe I’m world-class caliber and I’m always ready to prove it.”

The win over Mello was not only LoBosco’s seventh straight win, but it marked the fifth time in his young career that he’s recorded a stoppage victory.

“I’m explosive,” added the 29 year-old LoBosco, who will face Palmer Saturday night. “I’m pretty athletic and powerful so don’t blink.”

Lobosco trains out of St. Charles MMA in Missouri, which has also helped produce fighters like UFC vet Alptekin Ozkillic. Palmer continues to hone his skills out of the aforementioned Team Alpha Male, which is home to UFC contenders and champions like Urijah Faber, TJ Dillashaw and Chad Mendes among others.

“
There’s nothing wrong with being at a big name gym,” said LoBosco, while discussing the pros and cons of training at a big name gym. “Everyone has their own style and me training here in Missouri is my style. I’ve trained at big name gyms – in fact a few years back I helped Dominick Cruz get ready for two of his camps and it was awesome. I loved being around those guys and the camaraderie was great. But it depends on you personality … and I’m comfortable working with my people.”

“When I box, I don’t box with MMA guys, I box with professional boxers. When I wrestle, I wrestle with a guy that is 7th in the nation in judo and a wrestler who competes internationally,” added LoBosco. “I don’t practice with guys who just do MMA. I practice each sport ‘as is’ and I practice with people that focus on those individual sports. And that’s to my advantage and why I do what I do.”

Palmer (7-1) arrived in WSOF having won the Resurrection Fighting Alliance featherweight belt, and was signed to fight Georgi Karakhanyan for the promotion’s vacant, 145 pound title. The four time, All American wrestler was submitted by Karakhanyan in round three.

“He seems like a tough guy, he pushes the pace and comes to fight,” LoBosco noted about the 26 year-old Palmer. “His whole team does that. I think he’ll come hard and be aggressive. I’ll just stay ready for everything.”

“Wherever I see an opening is where I go. If I see an opening on the ground then I’ll take it there. If I see someone is uncomfortable standing then I’ll keep it standing. I do whatever it takes to win big. But I don’t do stupid stuff. A knockout in the 15th minute is the same as a knockout in the first minute. A knockout is a knockout. I’m going to take my time and I’m going to find an opening.”

WSOF 10 will be hosted by the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The main card will be broadcast on the NBC Sports Network.
