WSOF 6: Burkman to Battle Carl for Welterweight Title

By FCF Staff

World Series of Fighting has announced that it will crown its first welterweight champion on October 26th, as UFC vet Josh Burkman will fight former Bellator competitor Steve Carl for the title. The bout will headline the event, which will be hosted by the BankUnited Center in Coral Gables, Florida. As always, the card will be broadcast on the NBC Sports Network throughout the U.S.

Burkman (26-9) scored his third consecutive win over a UFC veteran at WSOF in June, by choking out highly regarded welterweight Jon Fitch. Prior to the victory the former TUF competitor earned victories over Gerald Harris and Aaron Simpson, the latter of which Burkman stopped at WSOF 2.

Carl (20-3) has also gone undefeated under the WSOF banner, as the veteran is coming off wins over Ramico Blackmon and most recently Tyson Steele.

WSOF has also announced that the October 26th card will feature a bantamweight bout between Carson “Little Juggernaut” Beebe (14-2) and Marlon Moraes (11-4-1) in the co-headliner, and a lightweight tilt featuring Justin Gaethje (9-0) versus Dan “The Upgrade” Lauzon (17-4).

“We’ve been looking forward to making our debut in Florida for some time now, and I’m proud to say we will be in Coral Gables on Oct. 26,” World Series of Fighting President Ray Sefo said. “Our headliner will see us award either Josh Burkman or Steve Carl the first championship belt in our promotion’s history, and I think that matchup will be something special. The whole lineup we’re planning will be fantastic, and I look forward to making more announcements very soon.”

Up next, the promotion is heading to Atlantic City for WSOF 5, which will feature Andrei Arlovski taking on Mike Pyle in the main event.
