World Series of Fighting has announced that not only will Rousimar Palhares challenge Steve Carl for the welterweight title, March 29th, but Marlon Moraes will battle Josh Rettinghouse for the inaugural bantamweight title. WSOF 9 will be hosted by the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino on that date, and the main card will be broadcast on the NBC Sports Network.

“We are very excited to be returning home for this incredible fight card,” World Series of Fighting President Ray Sefo was quoted saying in a press release from the promotion. “Steve Carl will have a real serious challenge ahead for the first defense of his welterweight title as he faces Rousimar Palhares, and Marlon Moraes vs. Josh Rettinghouse will be an incredible fight and a great way to crown our first bantamweight champion.

“We’re working on a few more fights that we should be able to announce shortly, but fans are really going to love the lineup for this event, and great fights are guaranteed.”

Palhares (15-5) will be competing for the first time since October when he tapped out Michael Pierce at UFC FN 29. The jiu-jitsu specialist was banned by the UFC after the bout, however, for holding onto the fight winning heel hook for too long.

Carl (21-3) has won seven straight and is coming off a choke-out victory over Josh Burkman in October, which saw him secure the WSOF welterweight title.

Moraes (12-4-1) has won four bouts under the WSOF banner to date, and quickly knocked out Carson Beebe in his last outing.

Rettinghouse (10-2), meanwhile, earned a unanimous decision win over Alexis Vila at WSOF 6 in October, which marked his promotional debut.
