WSOF Signs UFC Vet Yushin Okami

Yushin Okami

By FCF Staff

As most observers thought would be the case, following Yushin Okami’s surprising release from the UFC in September, the top ranked middleweight has already been signed by another promotion. World Series of Fighting President Ray Sefo announced recently via Twitter that the 32 year-old has signed with the organization.

No terms of the deal were disclosed. Okami was let go by the UFC not long after he was stopped by “Jacare” Souza at UFC Fight Night 28. Prior to the defeat, Okami had won three in a row, which included wins over Hector Lombard, Alan Belcher and Buddy Roberts.

Okami went 13-5 during his extended run with the UFC, but the powerful middleweight was criticized by some for his grinding approach to fighting. UFC President Dana White relayed after the fighter’s release that it was because he had become a “gate keeper”, and had a long road back into the title picture.

Okami fought former champ Anderson Silva in 2011 and was stopped in the second round.
