Pride: Total Elimination 2004

By Mark Ginther

Total Elimination 2004
Held April 25, 2004
Saitama Super Arena - Japan

Leaving Saitama Arena, following the opening round of the 2004 Heavyweight Grand Prix, the first thing I did was look for the moon. With few exceptions evening's events played out so contrary to conventional wisdom, I could only attribute it to unusual lunar activity.

Some of the curious occurrences: Rua is out punched by Kharitonov; Giant Silva wins; Schilt submits McGee; Yokoi goes past the first round with Nogueira; Fedor armbars Coleman, and Mirko is floored by a left hook from Randleman.

The Results:

Heath Herring def. Yoshiki Takahashi by KO (strikes) 4:53 into R1.
Sergey Kharitonov def. Murilo "Ninja" Rua by KO (punches) 4:14 into R1. (Sergey is the man to watch in the future.)
Giant Silva def. Sentoryu by submission (kimura) 4:64 into R1
Semmy Schilt def. Gan McGee by submission (armbar) 5:02 into R1 (Didn't see that one coming at all.)
Naoya Ogawa def. Stefan Leko by submission 1:34 into R1.
Kevin Randleman def. Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic by KO (Randleman drops Mirko with a left hook, and finishes pounding on the mat) 1:57 into R1.
Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira def. Hirotaka Yokoi by submission (front choke) 1:25 into R2.
Emelianenko Fedor def. Mark Coleman by submission (armbar) 2:11 into R1
