Following his recent release from the UFC, Ray Borg said he would be “back”. But, more recently the former flyweight title challenger announced he’s retiring from fighting.

Earlier this month it was reported that Borg had been cut by the UFC, but the 27 year-old said he would be “back.”

On Thursday, however, Borg shared out this statement.

Been in this game for a solid 14 years, never did I think retirement would come at the age of 27 but some decisions are harder than others and I have to make sure I am making the right one for my family. I appreciate all the love the MMA community has shown my family over the years but it may be time to move on to the next chapter of my life. Much love everyone!

Borg had been forced to withdraw from a couple of fights in recent months, due to health concerns tied to his young son, who has been diagnosed with the brain condition hydrocephalus. The New Mexico fighter, who also missed weight for several bouts, went 13-5 in professional MMA.
