Ray Borg Outlines Why Demetrious Johnson Will “Completely Dominate” John Dodson in Rematch
By Kelsey Mowatt
Although some may believe John Dodson could end the reign of flyweight champ Demetrious Johnson at UFC 191, it doesn’t sound like Ray Borg will be putting money down on “The Magician”.
Dodson has been tapped for a rematch with Johnson, after putting together a three fight winning streak, which includes wins over Darrell Montague, John Moraga and Zach Makovsky. The heavy handed fighter faced Johnson in January, 2013, but lost by unanimous decision.
Recently Borg appeared on Full Contact Fighter Radio, and when the rising flyweight was asked for his call on Johnson-Dodson II, he stated:
“I’m going to say the same thing I’ve been saying…Demetrious Johnson man, he’s so smart,” said Borg, who is coming off a unanimous decision win over Geane Herrera at UFC FN 73, which was his third straight win. “He’s such an educated fighter. I’m just going off his past fights and the kind of fighter he is. First time he fought Ian McCall, some might say Ian McCall won and it was a close fight. Second fight (he) completely just dusted Ian McCall out of the water.”
Johnson has won five more bouts since he faced Dodson the first time. Most recently, at UFC 186 in April, the champion submitted Kyoji Horiguchi.
“First fight with Joseph Benavidez, super close title fight. Second fight, knocked him completely out,” furthered Borg. “So I feel like the same thing’s going to happen for this. He’s so smart, he’s such a smart fighter that he’s going to go back, I’m sure he’s already been doing this since the first fight between them, going back, correcting all his errors he made in the first fight, exposing Dodson’s holes quicker, and he’s going to go in there and completely dominate him the second fight. I don’t think he’ll finish Dodson but I think he’ll just completely dominate him.”
UFC 191 will be hosted by the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. In the co-headliner, Andrei Arlovski will fight fellow heavyweight contender, Frank Mir.
