Ray Longo Pushes For Al Iaquinta – Conor McGregor Bout
By FCF Staff
Following Al Iaquinta’s memorable win over Kevin Lee this past weekend, the lightweight’s striking coach, Ray Longo, is hoping to see him battle Conor McGregor.
Iaquinta outscored Lee for the decision victory in the headliner of UFC Milwaukee. More recently, Longo appeared on “The MMA Hour“, and the renowned coach had this to say about ‘Raging Al’s’ next fight (quotes via MMA Fighting):
“I’d really like to see him fight Conor next,” Longo said. “I don’t think Conor deserves the Khabib rematch at all. It looks like they’re going to give Ferguson Khabib, which is 100 percent fair. That makes fair sense, not everything is fair sense, it’s money sense.
“But I’d like to see Al get a big money fight against a great guy who can bring a lot of eyeballs to pay-per-view. I think that would be great. I think Al deserves it and I think that’s a great matchup. I’d love to see it and I’d love to be a part of it.”
Since McGregor was submitted by Khabib Nurmagomedov in October, UFC President Dana White has said that he believes Tony Ferguson should be next for the lightweight champ. White has also noted that he believes a rematch beteen McGregor and Dustin Poirier makes sense.
Iaquinta, meanwhile, has expressed an interest in fighting Ferguson next, as well as facing Nurmagomedov for a second time. The latter earned a decision win over him this past April.
