Recovering Jon Fitch Says He’ll Be Ready for UFC 138

By FCF Staff

Welterweight contender Jon Fitch hopes to resume his hunt for another title shot in the coming months, as the veteran has announced that he’ll be ready to start a training camp September 1st if need be, after having shoulder surgery earlier this year.

Speaking on his official Twitter account, Fitch posted recently:

Great news. I will be cleared to start training camp sept 1st. I’ll be more than ready for #UFC in San Jose.

Although the Ultimate Fighting Championship hasn’t yet confirmed the date and location for UFC 138, the event is expected to take place November 19th, in San Jose. It’s believed that Fitch’s AKA teammate, heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez, will fight number one contender Junior dos Santos at the event.

Fitch hasn’t competed since UFC 127 in February, when he battled former champion BJ Penn to a draw. The two were scheduled to fight again at UFC 132 on July 2nd, however, both men were forced to withdraw from the bout due to injuries.

Although no opponent has been confirmed for Fitch to face in his return, a rematch with Penn is still a likely possibility.

The draw with Penn ended Fitch’s (23-3-1) five fight winning streak, which included notable victories over Mike Pierce, Paulo Thiago and Thiago Alves, after the fighter lost by unanimous decision to champion Georges St. Pierre in August, 2008.
