Report: “Shogun” Rua vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira Set For UFC 161 in Winnipeg

Mauricio "Shogun" Rua

Bout Between Dan Henderson and Rashad Evans Possible

By FCF Staff

Yesterday news surfaced that Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira had agreed to a rematch, and today comes word that the two will fight June 15th, at UFC 161. The light-heavyweight bout will headline the card, which will mark the first time the UFC has held an event in the Canadian city of Winnipeg.

Brazilian publications Lancenet.com and Tatame.com were the first to relay that Rua and Nogueira were set to fight again, and USA Today is reporting that Dana White has confirmed the bout will headline UFC 161.

In addition, White has also confirmed that the promotion is working on a fight between Rashad Evans (17-3-1) and Dan Henderson (29-9) for the event, however, they’re awaiting medical clearance for Evans.

Nogueira (21-5) and Rua (21-7) fought under the PRIDE banner in June, 2005, and the latter worked his way to a unanimous decision win.

UFC 161 is also expected to feature a welterweight bout between Jake Shields (27-6-1) and Tyron Woodley (11-1).

The June 15th card will be hosted by Winnipeg’s MTS Centre and will be a pay-per-view event.
