The Ultimate Fighting Championship recently bolstered its middleweight division with the addition of former Bellator champion Hector Lombard, and if he can defeat Brian Stann on August 4th, the highly regarded fighter could be in line for a title shot.

According to a report from USA Today, while UFC President Dana White was talking to reporters yesterday in New York, he acknowledged that  a title shot for Lombard “makes sense” if indeed he is victorious in his UFC debut.

White was reportedly discussing what might lie next for champion Anderson Silva, who will fight number one contender Chael Sonnen for a second time on July 7th at UFC 148.

Of course, it remains to be seen what the promotion might do if Sonnen wins, as a rubber match between the two rivals could be a possibility.

Lombard (31-2-1) recently signed with the UFC having put together an awe inspiring 25 fight undefeated streak which dates back to November, 2006.

The only men to have defeated the former Olympic Judoka and American Top Team fighter are Gegard Mousasi and Akihiro Gono.

During Lombard’s tenure with Bellator the 34 year-old-fighter scored wins over Alexander Shlemenko, Trevor Prangley and Faliniko Vitale, among others.

Stann (12-4) is coming off a dominant, first round stoppage of Alessio Sakara in April, after being submitted by Sonnen at UFC 136 in October.
