Report: Al Iaquinta no Longer Competing at UFC 205 Due to Contract Dispute

Al Iaquinta

By FCF Staff

Al Iaquinta was expected to face Thiago Alves at UFC 205, November 12th, but it looks like a contract dispute will prevent than from happening.

The heavy handed fighter, who hasn’t fought since last April due to a knee injury, recently spoke with FOX Sports. Iaquinta reported that he had verbally agreed to fight Alves at UFC 205, but after he received the bout agreement, he declined to sign it. The New York fighter claims that the offer was for less money, as a result of the Reebok uniform deal, which prevents fighters from wearing other sponsors during fight week.

I’m taking a pay cut from all of my sponsors. I’m taking a pay cut of all the last 18 months of the sponsors that could have been. I told (my manager) that I wanted more. I wanted to have a conversation with the UFC and see if they would do some kind of negotiation because when I signed my contract, there was no Reebok deal.

The UFC has yet to comment on the situation. Iaquinta worked his way to a split decision over Jorge Masvidal in his last bout.
