Report: Alessio Sakara Out of UFC 158 Rematch With Patrick Cote

Alessio Sakara

By FCF Staff

After their UFC 154 bout ended in disqualification and controversy, Alessio Sakara and Patrick Cote will have to wait even longer to bring some closure to that fight, as Sakara has reportedly been forced to withdraw from their March 16th rematch.

According to a post from Sakara on his Facebook page, the fighter has been instructed by his physician to take the next three months off from training, due to the poor and stressed condition of his kidneys. As a result, he will not fight Cote at UFC 158 in Montreal as expected.

On November 17th, Sakara was disqualified for punching Cote to the back of his head several times, which brought an end to the bout. Sakara, who had been dazed by Cote before mounting a prompt comeback, originally thought he had won the fight.

The middleweight and his representatives attempted to appeal the decision but their efforts were denied by the Quebec athletic commission.
