Report: Alistair Overeem Receives Suspended Sentence For Battery Charge

By FCF Staff

Former Strikeforce heavyweight champ Alistair Overeem will reportedly have to undergo 50 hours of community servce and anger management counseling, as a result of an incident on New Year’s weekend.

According to a report from the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Overeem received the aforementioned penalties due to a battery charge that stemmed from the incident, when he allegedly pushed a woman at the Wynn Resort in Las Vegas on January 2nd.

The decorated fighter reportedly also received a suspended 90 day sentence. As a result, if Overeem satisfies the conditions that have been assigned to him, the matter will be dismissed.

The 31 year-old Overeem was not in attendance at today’s sentencing, as the Dutch fighter attended a press conference at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino this morning to promote his May 26th bout with UFC Heavyweight Champion Junior Dos Santos.

On December 30th, Overeem made his Octagon debut at UFC 141 in Las Vegas, and put away former champion Brock Lesnar with strikes in under three minutes.
