Report: Anderson Silva’s Manager Repeats Calls For Bout With Georges St. Pierre

UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva

Anderson Silva and his camp continue to express an interest in “super fights” that will earn the 37 year-old big paydays, rather than tilts with lesser established commodities like rising middleweight Chris Weidman.

For some time, fans and observers have been calling for a bout between Silva and welterweight champ Georges St. Pierre, and increasingly it seems like the fight may be a possibility.

Dana White has been more receptive to the fight more recently, particularly when Nick Diaz’s camp called for a bout with Silva and the UFC President quickly dismissed the idea.

In a recent interview with MMA Weekly.com, the middleweight champion’s manager Ed Soares reiterated the team’s interest in putting together the all-star bout with GSP.

“A superfight like that I think is going to be the biggest fight,” said Soares.  “I think a lot of fans want to watch it and I think it will be a highlight for both of their careers. I think that the superfight is definitely a big challenge, fighting someone like Georges St-Pierre.”

Of course, St. Pierre has to get past interim champion Carlos Condit first on November 17th at UFC 154, after spending months on the sideline recovering from knee surgery.

Soares credited Weidman, who has been tapped by White as the current number one contender at 185, before arguing that the fighter hasn’t done enough to face Silva yet. Soares noted that Weidman “only has 9 or 10 professional fights” and that the bout is a “no win situation” for the middleweight champ.

Silva is coming off one of the biggest and most lucrative bouts in the promotion’s history, when he stopped rival Chael Sonnen in the second round at UFC 148 in July. Since the bout, Silva’s representative’s have consistently relayed that the fighter is looking to secure fights with similar paydays.
