UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva

Anderson Silva’s 2012 campaign will likely only feature one fight, as reportedly the UFC Middleweight Champion has relayed to UFC President Dana White that he intends to take the remainder of the year off from fighting.

Silva and White will apparently discuss the champion’s next move in early 2013, according to a report from ESPN.com.

The news shouldn’t be that surprising, as since Silva stopped Chael Sonnen in their rematch on July 7^th, the champion and his camp have expressed reservations about who should challenge the renowned fighter next.

Silva’s management team has shown no interest in fighting rising star Chris Weidman, while citing concerns as to whether a bout with the rising star would provide enough of a draw.

The 37 year-old-fighter’s camp has relayed that they would be interested in meeting welterweights Georges St. Pierre or Nick Diaz in a “super fight.” St. Pierre is fighting interim champion Carlos Condit on November 17^th, however, and White has shot down the idea of Diaz moving to middleweight to fight Silva.

Although Silva (32-4) will apparently fight just one time in 2012, his bout with Sonnen was the biggest of the year to date and set a U.S. box office record for the promotion.
