Report: Anderson Silva’s Doctor Says Fighter Claiming Innocence After Positive Test For Steroids

The MMA world is still reeling from the news that Anderson Silva has allegedly tested positive for steroids, and while the legend has yet to comment publicly, he’s reportedly told his doctor he’s innocent.

On Tuesday, it was reported that Silva tested positive for drostanolone and androstane in a test prior to his win over Nick Diaz at UFC 183. The Nevada State Athletic Commission will reportedly conduct more testing to confirm those results.

Marcio Tannure, who is also the medical director of the Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission (CABMMA) and Silva’s doctor, has apparently spoke to Silva about the news and relayed the following to Band News Radio (quote via MMA Fighting.com):

“Anderson told me he’s disappointed, upset because he didn’t use steroids,” Dr. Tannure said. “He will ask for the confirmation test because he believes the only explanation is a contamination or a mistake from the lab. He told me: ‘I have an impeccable career history and I wouldn’t want to tarnish my image.’

Tannure went on to add that the entire process regarding the tests has yet to be completed, and noted it’s “too soon to judge.”

Silva, who has been an outspoken critic of steroid users in the past, fought for the first time on Saturday, since breaking his leg in December, 2013,
