Shortly after this past Saturday’s UFC 156 event in Las Vegas, UFC President Dana White relayed that lightweight contender Anthony Pettis had informed him of his desire to drop to featherweight and challenge champion Jose Aldo. It appears as though the feared striker, who is coming off a first round stoppage of Donald Cerrone at UFC on FOX 6, has gotten his wish.

According to report from USA Today, White has confirmed that Pettis is indeed moving to 145 pounds and will face Aldo on August 3rd. The venue and location of the fight has yet to be determined.

Aldo (22-1) is also coming off a victory, as the renowned fighter worked his way to a tightly contested, unanimous decision win over former lightweight champ Frankie Edgar at UFC 156. The 26 year-old fighter has won 15 straight fights.

With the win over Cerrone, the 26 year-old Pettis (16-2) extended his win streak to three, since he lost by UD to Clay Guida in June, 2011.
