Report: Anthony Pettis Wants Fight With Jose Aldo Next

Pettis

By FCF Staff

Despite blasting his way through Donald Cerrone last week at UFC on FOX 6, to reinforce his position as a leading lightweight contender, Anthony Pettis is reportedly interested in moving to 145 pounds to face champion Jose Aldo. UFC President Dana White relayed after last night’s UFC 156 card in Las Vegas that Pettis had texted him to say he would make the drop to fight Aldo.

White also expressed an interest in the match-up. The top contenders in the featherweight division currently are Ricardo Lamas, who stopped Erik Koch last weekend, and “The Korean Zombie” Chang Sung Jung. The latter is currently sidelined with an injury, however, and is expected to be sidelined for a few more months.

Aldo worked his way to a unanimous decision win over former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar in the card’s main event.

At lightweight, Pettis would still be a few months away from a title shot if it were to happen, as the division’s current champ Benson Henderson is scheduled to fight former Strikeforce champ Gilbert Melendez in April.
