Report: Bellator Releases Former Bantamweight Champ Zach Makovsky
By FCF Staff
Following a split decision loss to Anthony Leone earlier this month, which was Zach Makovsky’s second defeat in a row, Bellator has reportedly released the former bantamweight champ.
The 30 year-old-fighter, who lost the title to Eduardo Dantas in April via technical submission, posted on his official Twitter account:
Honestly shocked but thank you for the opportunity @BellatorMMA@BjornRebney
While the statement didn’t outright announce Makovsky’s release, the fighter proceeded to retweet several others from fans, expressing their support in terms of his exit from the promotion.
Makovsky (14-4) went 6-2 during his time with Bellator, and had won eight straight fights prior to facing Dantas earlier this year. The former NCAA Division 1 wrestler won the bantamweight belt in 2010 by defeating Ed West in the finals of that season’s tourney.
Dantas is set to defend Bellator’s bantamweight championship on February 14th versus Marcos Galvao.
