For months, the issue of testosterone replacement therapy has sparked debates throughout the MMA world, but Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney says he’s been clear on his position about the treatments since day one.

Recently the Nevada State Athletic Commission ruled that fighters using TRT would no longer be able to compete in the state, and many other jurisdictions are expected to follow suit. In a follow up interview with MMA Junkie, here is some of what Rebney had to say about the commission’s decision.

“I’ve had the same opinion and stance on it since the first time I was asked the question,” Rebney said. “I just never felt the controls were tight enough to be able to allow it to occur. When guys misuse it, it’s an unfair advantage. If you’re going to try to equalize the playing field, the best way is to just eliminate it in totality.”

“I’ve never wavered on it and gone back over. I’ve never flip-flopped on that issue.”

Rebney furthered that he wasn’t aware of any Bellator fighter applying for a therapeutic use exemption in the past. Light-heavyweight finalist “Rampage” Jackson reportedly received a TUE in 2012, but that was when the veteran was fighting for the UFC.

Bellator’s next event takes place this Friday night, March 7th in Thackerville, Oklahoma. The card will feature bantamweight champion Eduardo Dantas taking on Anthony Leone in the main event.
