Report: Ben Askren Believes it Could be a “Long Time, if Ever”, Before Ronda Rousey Returns
By FCF Staff
Following Ronda Rousey’s crushing loss to Holly Holm earlier this month, the former champ said she’d be back, but Ben Askren evidently isn’t so sure.
Rousey was knocked out by Holm at UFC 193, in what many believe was the greatest upset in UFC history. Since the fight there’s been no shortage of debate in terms of what went wrong for Rousey, and what’s next for her.
Well, recently Askren appeared on “The MMA Hour”, and the ONE welterweight champ was asked to weigh-in on Rousey’s defeat and future. While doing so the vaunted wrestler said this (quote via MMA Fighting.com):
“That clip on TMZ, I want to say that was [three] days after the fight, and by that point a well-rounded, mature adult would’ve said: ‘listen, I got my ass kicked. It happened, but I’m going to be back. This isn’t the end for me. Listen, people lose. That happens. It’s acceptable. But I’m coming back and I’m going to get my title.’ But she was so distraught over what had happened, it’s going to take her a long time.,” said Askren, while referring to footage that saw Rousey cover her face after the loss and push by cameras. “I think it’s going to take her a long time, if ever. I mean, maybe she’s going to say, ‘hey, I made enough money in the movies, this fighting thing is hard, right? It’s tough. I’m going to go do that (movies), it’s easier.'”
Leading up to UFC 193, Rousey said she planned on taking a break from fighting and didn’t want to compete again until summer, 2016. Following her defeats she also repeated that she planned to take some time off, but that she would return to the cage.
