At a time when the issue of performance enhancing drugs continues to dominate the MMA world, the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association has announced that veteran BJ Penn has voluntarily enrolled in the organization’s program. Penn’s next opponent, rising welterweight Rory MacDonald, has also reportedly agreed to the testing regiment.

According to a press release from VADA:

MMA fighter BJ Penn has enrolled in the VADA (Voluntary Anti-Doping Association) program and will undergo 8 weeks of random blood and urine testing for his UFC 152 bout taking place in Toronto, Canada on September 22, 2012. He has agreed that all test results will be immediately forwarded to the ABC (Association of Boxing Commissions), the Ontario athletic commission (Office of the Athletics Commissioner), and the UFC.

MacDonald’s entry into the VADA program was reported by MMA Junkie.

The bout will mark the first time in UFC history that two competitors have entered into such a program prior to fight date.

The UFC has not made any announcement about Penn and MacDonald’s decision.
