UFC featherweight Chad Mendes has been charged with battery, following his alleged involvement in a bar fight that took place in July in Hanford, California. According to a report from the Hanford Sentinel, Mendes is facing a possible fine of $2000 and a six month jail term as result of the charge.
The report furthers that according to the Kings County Sheriff’s, eyewitnesses say Mendes punched a man in the face and fled out the back of the establishment.
The former number one contender’s representatives are disputing the version of the incident that’s being reported.
Mendes is set to appear in court on September 19th.
The 27 year-old-fighter (12-1) hasn’t competed since July when he stopped Cody McKenzie at UF 148. In January, Mendes challenged champion Jose Aldo at UFC 142 but was KO’d in the first round.
