Report: Charges Dropped Against Thiago Silva
By FCF Staff
UFC veteran Thiago Silva is no longer facing charges after an alleged domestic violence incident this past February.
Prosecutors in South Florida have reportedly decided to drop two charges of aggravated assault with a firearm against Silva, according to a report from TMZ.com. The report furthers that one of the alleged victim in the case, Silva’s wife, did not cooperate and has likely moved out of the United States.
Silva was originally charged with attempted murder, but authorities downgraded the charges soon after. The fighter was accused of threatening his wife and renowned jiu-jitsu practitioner Pablo Popovitch with a gun.
According to the light-heavyweight’s attorney, however, Silva has always maintained his innocence.
Silva was released by the UFC following the alleged incident, but it remains to be seen if the 31 year-old will be brought back, now that the charges have been dropped.
The 16-3 fighter is coming off victories over Matt Hamill and Rafael Cavalcante.
