Conor McGregor’s Coach Says Fighter is a “Bad Stylistic Match-up” For Jose Aldo

Conor McGregor has argued on multiple occasions that he has the skills to end the remarkable reign of Jose Aldo, and following the latter’s memorable win over Chad Mendes, “Notorious” echoed those sentiments.
Recently, the Irish featherweight’s coach John Kavanagh, spoke with The Telegraph’s Gareth A. Davies about the UFC champ and his vaunted game. While Kavanagh praised Aldo for his abilities, he also argued McGregor has the make-up to defeat the Brazilian star. Here is some of what Kavanagh had to say:
“Jose Aldo is the best and cleanest striker. But I do think Conor is a bad stylistic matchup for Aldo, though. Conor is a southpaw. I’m sure Aldo still has nightmares about throwing that hard leg kick on the southpaw Korean Zombie [Chan Sung Jung].
“Right away one of his main weapons is going to be gone. Also, when he’s facing wrestlers he’s the bogeyman. They are so afraid of his striking they shoot from far away. And then it’s a pretty easy takedown defence.”
The SBG coach furthered that McGregor will not be afraid of “getting into range” with Aldo, and that because of that, the champ will be “on his back foot.” Kavanagh added “We’ll then see how good his takedowns are.”
McGregor is currently booked to fight Dennis Siver on January 18th, and if the rising featherweight wins, he’ll likely face Aldo next.
