The May 18th, UFC on FX 8 card appears to have lost a compelling middleweight bout, as Costa Philippou has reportedly been forced to withdraw from his fight with former Strikeforce champ “Jacare” Souza.

Philippou has incurred a cut over his eye while training, according to a report from MMA Fighting.com, and as a result cannot compete as scheduled. There’s no word whether a replacement will be brought in for Souza and the UFC has not made any announcement regarding the reported injury.

Philippou is currently riding a five fight win streak which includes victories over Jorge Rivera, Jared Hamman, Court McGee, Riki Fukuda and most recently Tim Boetsch.

The UFC on FX 8 card will be hosted by Jaragua do Sul, Brazil and will feature a middleweight bout between Vitor Belfort and Luke Rockhold in the main event.
