Report: Dana White Repeats Alexander Gustafsson is “Next in Line” to Face Jon Jones

Even though Jon Jones is calling for a fight with Daniel Cormier, Dana White has repeated the UFC’s desire for the light-heavyweight champ to face Alexander Gustafsson next.

For sometime now, the UFC has been open about its plans to book a rematch between Jones and Gustafsson, now that the two have defeated Glover Teixeira and Jimi Manuwa respectively. Recently it’s come to light, however, that Jones wishes to face the undefeated Cormier next.

In a follow up interview with the Albuquerque Journal, the UFC President had this to say, when asked if the UFC intends to still “press for Gustafsson.”

“Yeah, definitely. Gustafsson’s next in line,” said White. “Even Cormier said, ‘Listen, I hope this whole things works out for me and I get the shot, but even I believe that Gustafsson deserves the next shot.’ (Gustafsson is) the No. 1 contender, he’s waited for this rematch and (Cormier) even agrees.”

White, who is reportedly set to meet with Jones on Thursday, also argued that the champion is hurting his reputation by wanting to fight Cormier instead of Gustafsson.

Jones handed Gustafsson a unanimous decision loss in September, but since the bout was extremely competitive, many fans have been calling for a rematch since.
