Report: UFC’s Dana White Says Anderson Silva Defending Title Next: “We’re Waiting on Something”

UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva

The search for Anderson Silva’s next opponent continues, as a result of Michael Bisping’s stoppage loss to Vitor Belfort earlier this month, but the UFC could reportedly have something for the middleweight champion soon.

While speaking after last night’s UFC on FOX 6 card in Chicago, UFC President Dana White confirmed that rising middleweight Chris Weidman is still pushing for a bout with Silva, however, the latter’s camp isn’t overly interested at this juncture.

Although White described the lack of interest by Silva and his manager Ed Soares as more “craziness”, the promoter also pointed out at that they initially refused to rematch Chael Sonnen. According to a report by MMA Junkie, White proceeded to say that:

“We’re waiting on something and want to see if this thing pans out. When we’re ready to announce it, we’ll announce it. [Silva] will defend his title, but it won’t be a super fight.”

Middleweight contenders Hector Lombard and Yushin Okami are set to meet in March, and Weidman will be out for a few more months due to shoulder surgery.

Strikeforce Middleweight Champion Luke Rockhold, however, is still waiting on an opponent after he was recently signed by the UFC.
