Report: Dana White Says Battle for Eddie Alvarez Is “Going to Get Ugly”

By FCF Staff

It remains to be seen where former Bellator lightweight champ Eddie Alvarez will compete next, and it’s no secret that the highly regarded fighter is attracting plenty of interest on the free agent market. While for some time many observers believed that Alvarez would eventually head to the UFC, the Viacom backed Bellator has made it clear that it is hoping to retain the services of the 28 year-old-fighter.

Recently news surfaced that the UFC has indeed extended an offer to Alvarez, and the MMA world is now waiting to see if Bellator will match what the world’s biggest promotion has tabled.

According to multiple reports–while speaking at pre-fight UFC 155 event this week–UFC President Dana White stated “it’s going to get ugly”, when asked to comment on the bidding war for Alvarez. The executive didn’t go into specifics in terms of the negotiations.

Alvarez  (24-3) is coming off a first round, stoppage win over Patricky Freire in October, after recording a TKO win over Shinya Aoki in April. The vet’s only loss in ten bouts took place versus Michael Chandler last November, who submitted Alvarez in the fourth round to become the Bellator champ.
