After nearly two weeks of widespread speculation, as to whether Daniel Cormier will rematch Jon Jones next, it’s being reported the fight is indeed close to being signed.

Following Cormier’s submission win over Anthony Johnson at UFC 210 earlier this month, it wasn’t clear if the UFC would grant Jones a shot at the 205 title, or Jimi Manuwa. But, according to a new report from MMA Fighting, multiple sources have told the outlet the promotion is close to booking Cormier – Jones II for July 29th. UFC 214 is taking place that day in Anaheim, California.

Cormier and Jones were scheduled to fight at UFC 200 last July, but the latter tested positive for banned substances, and the bout was cancelled. Jones and his team were able to demonstrate that a contaminated sexual performance enhancement pill he took was responsible for the failed test, and as a result, he was only suspended for one year.

It’s not clear yet as to whether Cormier – Jones II would headline UFC 214. UFC President Dana White has repeatedly said in the last year that Jones would not headline in his next bout, as a result of several incidents involving the former champ.

Jones faced Cormier in January, 2015, and defended the light-heavyweight title via unanimous decision. Several months later the star was stripped of the belt, however, as  a result of a hit-and-run incident involving Jones.
